Why I consider the KJV ONLY crowd to be a cult

To this day, I truly do LOVE and study from the KJV and have since 1977. It is the Bible version that I was raised on and am most familiar with when it comes to the MANY memory verses that have impacted my life. I read, quote and study from it daily. However, some may wonder why I refer to the “KJV Only” crowd as a “cult”. Well to be clear on what I am saying, consider the on-line definition of a cult:

cult:

[noun]

1 a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or OBJECT.

2 a relatively SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister.

3 a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or THING.

I would also add to that:

4 Total intolerance for others who disagree regarding their veneration of the particular person or THING they idolize and the propensity to demonize everything that is not in alignment with their over-zealous, hyper-dogmatic belief system.

5. Opposition of critical thinking and refusal to acknowledge any facts that contradict the prevailing viewpoint.

6. Emphasizing man-made doctrines outside Scripture, such as the idea that a particular version of the Bible is the ONLY one that is trustworthy and/or that YHWH is incapable of communicating His love and the plan of salvation through any other version.

7. Causing separation from the assembly/church/congregation if you don’t hold to their view.

That’s why.

Yeshua is the WORD that was made flesh. HE is the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through HIM. This says nothing about veneration of a 400 year old book printed in outdated English. It is the Holy Spirit’s job to lead us into ALL truth, not the printing press and publishing houses – and certainly not dead kings.
